I know that service hours are done for the year but now is not the time to start slacking. Get a head start for next year with these 6 service organizations. It’s important to be an active member in your community and to be a force for good, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

 

  1. Free library of Philadelphia

Do you love reading? The Free Library of Philadelphia has given the gift of learning to many people; give back with your time and effort to support a cause that supports so many others.

  1. Manna

Manna is a nonprofit that makes and delivers healthy meals to those battling life-threatening illnesses. Manna provides 3 meals a day, 7 days a week and volunteers are greatly needed to make this possible.

  1. Maternity Care Coalition

The maternity care coalition has assisted so many mothers and they need support. There are so many ways to get involved. And if you are still wondering whether you should volunteer, an added bonus is its close proximity to John W Hallahan, it’s right by the wawa on 21st and is only a 6 minute walk away.

  1. Out of School Time

Children gain huge benefits by being proficient readers. This program only needs one hour a week from you to help a child. Philly Reading Coaches pairs a volunteer with a child for one on one reading time. Will you give this gift to a child to better their future?

  1. Bingo’s Foundation

Bingo’s foundation is a no-kill cat shelter that houses about 40 cats. They need volunteers to provide care and love to these cats. All you need is a couple extra hours a week to give these felines the life they deserve.

  1. The Philadelphia Project

The Philadelphia Project does summer camps, free home repair for the needy, after school-snacks, computers, and homework help. It is extremely beneficial to the community and needs at least 17 volunteers in addition to their staff.
