Rupi Kaur is a Canadian poet, illustrator, performer and writer who is known for teaching about Indian culture, feminism and self-worth in all of her works. Her first collection of poems, Milk and Honey (2014), has reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list, selling over a million copies. Her second collection recently came out and is called The Sun and Her Flowers. Here is my review of both books!

Milk and Honey

This collection focuses on the many forms of pain we feel throughout our lives, whether it be from abuse, false love or lack of self-confidence. These poems work to heal our heartaches and teach us how to let go and move forward, making us stronger than before. Kaur guides on us our journey of healing by teaching us to love ourselves, recognize our worth, and have confidence in who we are.

Favorite poem from this collection:

This poem is such a great example of how we should value each other for our personalities and respect each other because we are capable of accomplishing extraordinary things as long as we have the support we need.

The Sun and Her Flowers

Like Milk and Honey, this collection of poems focuses on self-worth and confidence but also talks about culture and heritage. Rupi teaches us that in order to love ourselves, we also need to take pride in those who have come before us and appreciate the sacrifices they have made so that we may have a chance to do better. She also teaches that it is easy to give up, but it is only through a strong will that we will be able to grow.

Favorite poem from this collection:

This poem shows us that we are fully capable of being happy and that we should value ourselves rather than seeking and relying solely on the happiness we may receive from others.

In conclusion, I enjoyed ALL of these poems. They were very eye opening and thought provoking. Rupi Kaur is a master of poetry and her creativity exceeds beyond what words can describe! I adored these poems and they will serve as reminders in my life always. I hope you all enjoyed this review and are inspired to read these poems. Please continue be happy and take pride in who you are!
